A road accident that occurred on a highway in Madhya Pradesh has become viral news, when a truck ran over a car and went past a distance of 1.5 km before halting. The accident took place on the NH-47 at the Indore-Dewas stretch on March 2, 2026, at about 11.40 pm.

Dashcam and nearby CCTV records depict a high-speed truck (with goods), losing control or being unable to brake in time, crashing into the back of a sedan. In its place, the truck collided with the car, pushing it over its front bumper and dragging it down the highway another 1.5 to 1.7 km. The vehicle was pancaked and went through several turns as sparks were flying as metal rubbed against asphalt.

The driver of the car, a 32-year-old man from Indore, miraculously escaped with severe injuries. Locals and police were able to extract him when finally the truck came to a stop. He had numerous fractures, injuries to the head and internal injuries, and was transported to a local hospital, which is privately based in Indore, and was admitted to the ICU, which he mentioned is stable.

The truck driver was a 28-year-old man from Rajasthan who had been caught because of the charges of rash and negligent driving, causing grievous hurt, and endangering lives. Police are suspecting fatigue or potential mobile phone distractibility; alcohol and drug tests are to be taken.

First circulated in local WhatsApp groups and then on X and Instagram, the viral video has become a source of uproar about the indiscriminate driving, ineffective highway policing, and the absence of an immediate medical response on the roadway. The netizens have demanded the tightening down of punishment and placing speed radars and emergency call boxes in the risky areas.

A probe has been initiated by Madhya Pradesh Police, and it is requesting the population to avoid posting unverified or graphic clips. This accident again throws into focus the current road safety crisis in India, whereby there are more than 150,000 reported deaths every year. The government has vowed to take a speedy disciplinary move against the truck operator and truck driver.
