Earlier this month, scientists and other key forecasting centers such as the ECMWF and NOAA sounded the alarm about the prospect of a 'Super El Niño.' Some pretty recent models suggest as high as 100% probability of a strong event by November, and there is the potential for the sea surface temperatures to match or surpass 2.5°C above average, which is approximately equal to historical strong conditions.
This significant phenomenon could significantly change the weather patterns on Earth: more rain and flooding in some areas, droughts in others. In the case of India, it puts stress on agriculture, full-spectrum variations, and flooding.
The event, together with current climate change, could have the potential to bring 2026 into new highs for global temperatures, experts say. Although today's readiness is better than in previous El Niñoes, governments and farmers are being asked to get ready for extreme conditions to come. Continued monitoring under different forecast scenarios.
