On Sunday afternoon, a United Airlines Boeing 767, with just over 230 people on board after flying in to Venice, Italy, struck a light pole and a bakery truck on the New Jersey Turnpike when landing at the Newark Liberty International Airport.
A dashcam video shot inside the truck, which was being used by H&S Bakery (carrying Schmidt Bakery products), was a shot of the horrifying impact as debris flew everywhere. The plane clipped the pole and hit the tractor-trailer, injuring the driver with minor injuries.
Fortunately, Flight 169 was able to safely land after the collision. The NTSB has initiated a low-approach investigation.
The viral video has created a mass of concern regarding flight courses over congested highways and safety measures at airports. No one was injured among the passengers, but this near miss has rattled a number of people. The authorities are reviewing altitude data and weather conditions during the time of the incident.
