Delhi Police Special Cell broke a big hack into an incident in which they dismantled a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)-associated cell accused of planning attacks in high population centers across the country, such as the Red Ford area of Delhi, and thronging religious sites, such as a temple in Chandni Chowk, on February 22, 2026.
It was a multi-state operation between Tamil Nadu (garment units in Tiruppur) and West Bengal, where six suspects were captured in Tamil Nadu and two suspects in West Bengal; they included Mizanur Rahman, Mohammed Shabat, Umar, Mohammed Litan, Mohammed Shahid, and Mohammed Ujjal. Seven of the arrested are citizens of Bangladesh and obtained forged Indian Aadhaar cards to pass as Indians.
The investigators got eight mobile phones, 16 SIM cards, reconnaissance footage of cities, and a trace of funding by their terror handlers. It was allegedly under the guidance of Shabir Ahmed Lone, a trained LeT militant based in Kashmir but currently located in Bangladesh, who reestablished contacts after his release in 2019, after serving a jail term. Lone aided so-called dry runs, such as putting up suggestive pro-Pakistan posters and declarations at Delhi metro stations (Janpath and others) in early February, reportedly meant to be psychological warfare and mobility assessments.
Early investigations indicate that the ISI in Pakistan was financially and operationally aiding it, and the main channel was Bangladesh. The arrests prevented future strikes, occurring as terrorism threats in heritage sites intensified and a car bomb on the target temple happened in November.
This crackdown points to the persistence of threats posed by cross-border networks that are using porous borders and radicalization. The suspects are being brought to Delhi to unravel the entire conspiracy, and to prevent more modules in the future, the suspects are being interrogated. This response time has been noted to be a major victory for the security machinery of India, especially in the current increased vigilance.
