Tiwari, who this time was reporting on a protest against new rules on caste-based discrimination at University Grants Commission (UGC), said that she was encircled and attacked by a mob of approximately 500 individuals.

They said, aaj tu chal, tera nanga parade niklega (Come on, we will parade you to-day naked). She also argued that she had ripped clothes, was hauled by the hair, strangled, molested as well as being touched inappropriately causing her to pass out briefly. Tiwari gave credits to some of the law students and police officers who assisted her in escaping.
The demonstration which took place at the Faculty of Arts involved confrontations between students. Tiwari accused left-wing groups such as AISA (All India Students Association) and SFI of the involvement whereas AISA also charged that their members were the targets and claimed that Tiwari had a background of creating unrest. ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) defended Tiwari and accused her of being beaten. Cross FIRs were applied: Tiwari applied one related to assault and threats, whereas opposing groups stated that she caused violence.
The Delhi Police have filed a complaint on either side and is searching the video evidence that is on the internet. Tiwari pointed out that it was caste-based attack and demanded justice but said, "This is apparent in the video... They merely have false commendations and false accusations. She has demanded severe punishment on the offenders.
The case has elicited many reactions, and social media has been flooded with comments- denouncing threats and violence of a female journalist. There were those who said that Tiwari got what he deserved due to his previous actions, and those who said that the alleged sexual threats and food attack by the mob were extreme. The incident has sparked off campus security, caste wars, and freedom of the media in the name of protests in learning institutions.
With ongoing investigation, the testimony of Tiwari has highlighted the risk exposed to journalists during reporting of sensitive matters. Law enforcers have guaranteed that they will conduct an in-depth investigation into the case.
