A Nepalese video has been widely viral, which was filmed by a local resident who confronted a crowd of Indian tourists who were spitting gutka (chewing tobacco) into a busy road. The accident is said to have arisen as the tourists threw the spit stained by a red hue out of a car in motion.
The Nepali man halted them and was not going to allow them to depart without clearing up the mess. In the clip, he can be heard saying firmly, “Yeh India nahi hai, bhai. Nepal hai. Paani daalo jaldi” (This is not India, brother. This is Nepal. Pour water quickly). He also included that it was not acceptable to come in such a large country and pollute the streets of another nation.
The tourists, who were so embarrassed that I could see, apologized several times and obeyed by filling the water to remove the marks. The shooting man or other stakeholders highlighted the importance of respecting the areas of the people.
The video itself has set the social media and online discourse ablaze with Indians expressing their frustration with the bad sense of civics exhibited by some tourists in foreign countries, with others lauding the action of the Nepali man in defending the act of cleaning. The video also brings forth the current controversies regarding responsible tourism and personal hygiene.
