Just hours ahead of a self-imposed deadline of destructive strikes, US President Donald Trump declared on April 7, 2026, that the United States has accepted a two-week freeze with Iran.
Trump himself announced in a post on Truth Social that he would suspend the bombing and attack of Iran, but only under the conditions of the full opening of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, which should be supplied by Iran within a two-week deadline with the mandatory conditions of its entire, immediate, and secure openness. This agreement facilitated by the leadership of Pakistan is assessed as a “two-sided ceasefire" and follows the Iranian proposal of what is termed as "10 points," which is reported to be a viable ground upon which the negotiation process should go on.
Trump observed that the US and Iran have already achieved the majority of the military goals and are already making steps towards a long-term peace agreement in the Middle East. Israel also has signed the temporary suspension. The news resulted in oil prices dropping and US stock futures soaring as the market reacted with relief. The negotiations will be conducted further in the next few days with the two parties trying to actualize a more lasting solution.
