The Turnaround: President Trump announced the US was extending the two-week ceasefire with Iran, he claimed, because the government is seriously divided in Tehran. His previous ceasefire that was due to be ended on Wednesday will now be extended until the leaders of Iran can present a unified proposal to end the war with the US and Israel.
At the Request of Pakistan: Trump cited the invitation to Field Marshal Asim Munir of Pakistan and PM Shehbaz Sharif as the reason behind the postponement of the planned attack and stated that the blockade and the entire military preparedness would still remain in effect.
None of the Fixed End Dates: Trump does not propose a deadline, allowing the extension of the truce without any deadline, which is at least on the US part. The US is also demanding an outright closure of the Iranian nuclear program, restrictions on its missile systems production, and Hezbollah and Hamas assistance.
Blockade Stays: Iran Outraged: The Foreign Minister of Iran, Abbas Araghchi, declares that a blockade of Iranian ports is an act of war and therefore does not respect the ceasefire and that Tehran is aware of how to fight off bullying.
Discusses Still in Limbo: Vice President JD Vance will not travel to Pakistan today. The information minister of Pakistan claimed Iran had yet to officially respond to the invitation to participate in the Islamabad peace talks and that before the ceasefire deadline a decision was vital.
Expert Analysis: Barbara Slavin of the Stimson Center described this assertion by Trump as an attempt at disguising the failure of its negotiations, stating that Iran has learned a new tool in its Strait of Hormuz control arsenal.
