In an awe-inspiring twist to the ongoing US-Israel war with Iran (it became the third week on March 17, 2026), Joe Kent, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC), has stated that he has just resigned. Kent posted a letter on X saying he could not in good conscience support the continued war in Iran even though he is a retired Green Beret and an open Trump enthusiast.
He actually said Iran was not threatening our country the next day, and it is evident that we had engaged in this war under Israeli coercion and under pressure of the influential American lobby group. Kent called on President Trump to turn the tide to prevent the further loss of American lives, giving the example of how his deceased wife died in Syria as a personal call to stop endless conflicts.
The resignation is the most high-profile internal schism in the administration regarding the conflict. Trump rejected it as a good thing because Kent minimized the threat posed by Iran, and the officials in the White House dismissed the assertions, saying that they were false. The action underscores the increased rifts among supporters of Trump on the reason and duration of the war, with more than 2,100 deaths being reported in the region.
