The US State Department announced on April 28, 2026, that it will issue a limited number of specially designed commemorative US passports to mark America’s 250th anniversary of independence.
The new “America250” passports will feature President Donald Trump’s portrait overlaid on the text of the Declaration of Independence on the inside cover, accompanied by his signature in gold lettering. Additional patriotic artwork, including motifs of the American flag and scenes from the founding era, will also be included.
This marks the first time a living US president’s image appears on the passport. The special edition will be available at no extra cost and will initially be issued as the default option at the Washington Passport Agency. Standard passport designs will continue to be offered at other locations.
The State Department confirmed that all security features remain unchanged, ensuring the passports retain their status as one of the world’s most secure travel documents. The limited run is expected to generate significant interest among collectors and patriots alike.
