The Pentagon has been making comprehensive preparations to send the US ground troops into Iran, several sources confirmed to CBS News on Friday, amid the increased possibilities of President Donald Trump's war between the US and Israel against Iran as the war is approaching the week four mark.
The top military officials have placed certain orders to prepare forces such as the 82nd Airborne Division, Marine Expeditionary Units, and the Global Response Force of the army in the event of deployment to the Middle East. One of the plans has been cited to include taking possession of the highly enriched uranium deposits of Iran, capturing the Kharg Island, the export center of 90 percent of Iranian oil, or planting forces along the Iranian coastline to unblock the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed.
Although a final decision has yet to be made and Trump publicly denies plans to have boots on the ground, indicating that he has no such plans, he keeps his options open. The officials underline that such contingencies will allow him to be flexible. Other sources, including Reuters, report on limited, focused missions as opposed to complete invasion with any representation on the ground exposing the new administration to political backlash, considering Trump has previously pledged not to get into any new commitments and his popularity ratings are low, according to the new polling. The war is now ongoing, and nobody knows when it will end.
