On April 27, 2026, a gruesome story unfolded in Naya Nagar, Mira Road (Thane district) near Mumbai, where 31-year-old Zaib Zubair Ansari allegedly stabbed two private security guards to death after inquiring about their religion.
Ansari questioned guards Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen at 4 AM at a construction site, the police said. He inquired about their names, faith, and, in particular, whether they knew the "Kalma" (Islamic prayer). He then threatened to kill them with a knife when they couldn't do so. Mishra has been badly injured while Sen has minor injuries.
The accused, who had been traveling to the US for some years but has now returned to India, was caught after 90 minutes on CCTV. It has been transferred to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), as his home contained handwritten notes saying he wanted to join ISIS and other extremist material. The police have claimed it as a potential "lone wolf" attack by a self-motivated terrorist. The victims are in good health.
