Famous local tour guide of Varanasi, also known as Mr. Deep, has rocketed to the heights of popularity on the internet following the release of a heartwarming video of him gift-of-tonguing in Japanese with foreign visitors, which has become viral on Instagram.
Videotaped by the Japanese traveler sukedaitravel, the video was taken at the historic Being Munshi Ghat, where Deep guides people and smoothly incorporates cultural knowledge with personal philosophy.
Deep told me one way he was able to become so fluent: when I was 15 years old, I learned Japanese.
At a heartrending moment when a tourist offered him a tip, Deep politely refused by saying, "Money is not that important; people are."
Users of social media rejoiced at the exchange as a bright spot in the spirit of Atithi Devo Bhava of India—the notion that visitors are to be treated as deities. Free Press Journal
The video received more than 1.2 million watch time, and the netizens proclaimed Deep incredibly talented, kind-hearted, and an ambassador of culture to India.
