Yuzvendra Chahal, an Indian leg-spinner who played earlier for the Punjab Kings of the Indian Premier League, is severely undergoing social media backlash due to a late-night video that went viral on April 9-10, 2026. The video, allegedly shot at Chandigarh, portrays a man, who appears similar to Chahal, behind the steering wheel of a purple luxury car, puffing a cigarette, tossing the lit butt outside the window onto the road and driving away.
The netizens were outraged by what was said to be littering and a lack of civic virtue, with a good number describing the act of littering as disgusting and wondering why someone who holds a high position could act as such a bad example. There has been irony in the comments, particularly after Chahal lately made remarks regarding his decision of giving up drinking so he is able to become more athletic and to motivate players of a younger age.
Although the truthfulness of the video was not verified, and neither Chahal nor PBKS made an official announcement, the video has gone viral on Instagram, X, and other networks. The accident has triggered the discussions regarding the responsibility of celebrities and road safety. Chahal continues to be a key player for Punjab Kings in the ongoing IPL season.
