Indian cuisine has long been celebrated for its rich and diverse use of spices and herbs. Urmila and her daughter Aarti Samant recognized the potential of these aromatic ingredients and decided to embark on a journey into the world of spices. In February 2019, they launched their brand, Masala Tokri, with a small investment of Rs 1 lakh. Today, they are not only catering to the Indian market but also exporting over 5,500 packets of their spices to other countries every month.

From Home Cook to Entrepreneur: Urmila's Spice Journey

Urmila's passion for cooking and her aversion to store-bought pre-mixed masalas led her to pursue a course in Thane to learn the art of making her own spice blends. Encouraged by positive feedback from friends and family, she began taking orders from customers through a WhatsApp group. By 2018, her loyal customer base expanded, and she started exporting her masalas to countries like the UK, Singapore, Dubai, and the UAE.

Aarti Joins the Spicy Expedition: Building Masala Tokri as a Premium Brand

Seeing the business's potential and the growing demands on her mother, Aarti decided to join forces and officially launched Masala Tokri as a premium-gourmet masala company. Urmila takes charge of the spices' production, while Aarti handles sales, marketing, and promotion. To differentiate themselves in a market dominated by big players, they focused on attractive packaging and emphasized the authentic taste of their chemical and preservative-free spice blends, freshly ground in their own masala chakki.

Empowering Women Through Spice Production: Masala Tokri's Reach and Success

With their business expanding, Urmila and Aarti recognized the opportunity to empower other women by employing them to meet the growing demands of Masala Tokri spices. The brand now offers a variety of masala mixes, including Goan Fish Curry Masala, Malvani Meat Masala, and Pindi Chole Masala, among others. Masala Tokri products are available through various retailers, both online and offline, making their flavorful blends accessible to a wider audience.
