The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections saw several close calls, but the narrowest win came in the Tiruppattur constituency, where Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate Seenivasa Sethupathy R emerged the winner.
Since 2006, Periakaruppan had been winning the seat. The ultimate outcome was that Sethupathy recorded 83,375 out of 96 eligible electorates as opposed to Periakaruppan, who won 83,374 out of 96 eligible electorates, respectively.
Veppanahalli (138 votes), Kanniyakumari (214 votes), and Polur (227 votes) were other close races. To the contrary, the largest margin was in Edappadi with an excess of over 98,000 votes.
This close-call, one-vote victory has brought attention to how each and every single ballot can determine the fate of a seat and contributed to the good first-time performance of TVK, which finished as the largest single party with 108 seats.
