The initial trends on May 4 during the vote-counting exercise have given an enormous push to the BJP-led NDA in Assam, with the union leading in over 60-80 seats out of 126 and easily exceeding the majority mark. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also strongly leading, at Jalukbari, against Congress candidate Bidisha Neog, fortifying his claim of a second term and a hat-trick in the party.
The good showing occurs even when Congress stages some inroads in some seats, including early leads in Jorhat by Gaurav Gogoi. The high voter turnout of up to 86 percent. and good governance narratives on infiltration and development seem to have played in favor of the BJP.
The BJP headquarters has started celebrating because trends are showing that the BJP is easily winning the elections. Although the trends may alter, the opening figures show that the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led government is expected to easily win the elections that will transform the political landscape in Assam over the next five years. Complete conclusions will be made later in the day.
