Having crossed the majority threshold, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has written history by scoring a throbbing majority in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026. With 206 seats in the 294-member house, the BJP is all set to form its first-ever government in the state, ending the 15-year-long reign of the Trinamool Congress.

This has also seen TMC being down to a mere 81 seats, having to endure a huge anti-incumbency wave. Some senior TMC ministers lost their seats as the saffron party found its way deep into the state, including some of their strongholds.

Suvendu Adhikari is most likely to become the next Chief Minister. It is the triumph of a high-pitched campaign with an accent on development, on Sonar Bangla, and on good governance.

Mamata Banerjee admitted defeat as she lost her seat of Bhabanipur. Jubilation followed at BJP offices throughout Bengal as the leaders of the party celebrated the outcome as a new dawn in the state. It is hoped that shortly the Election Commission will publish the results officially, and the government will be formed.
