During the 2026 Assembly elections, the BJP presented impressive results in West Bengal and Assam that drastically increased its vote counts compared to its competitors.
West Bengal: BJP secured about 45.85% of the votes (compared to 38% in 2021), winning more than 200 seats and ousting the rule of TMC. TMC had fallen to 40.8% (was 48%), with Congress and the Left marginalized.
Assam: BJP's vote share rose to 37.91-38.61% (from 33.21% in 2021), enabling it to win 82 seats independently. The Congress neared 29 percent, and the allies such as AGP and BPF had their share in carrying the NDA to its convincing 102-seat victory.
Big Picture Takeaway: Both states are being tampered with by the BJP through consolidation, which underscores the strong anti-incumbency against the TMC in Bengal and the continued popularity of the NDA in Assam. These outcomes are a significant change in the political situation in eastern India and reinforce the overall presence of BJP in the region. The surge highlights effective campaigning, delimitation advantageous atmosphere in Assam, and the preference of the voter for development and stability.
