The Election Commission (EC) has declared repolling in 15 polling stations in a few constituencies in West Bengal. That is decided upon, following reports of booth capture, violence, voter intimidation, and malfunctioning of the EVMs during the polling process.
Repolling will be done with tight security, with more central forces being put in place. The fresh dates of fresh polling will be announced soon, giving the affected voters another opportunity to exercise their franchise.
Political parties have responded intensely, with opposition parties pushing for broader investigations as the ruling party argues that most of the problems are isolated. The EC continued to highlight its zero-tolerance towards electoral malpractices.
This has again highlighted the history of high-voltage, controversial elections in West Bengal. The government has called on citizens and all other stakeholders to be peaceful and cooperate to allow free and fair repolling. Modifications will be made to the outcomes of affected booths after reporting the poll results.
