In the run-up to the high-stakes Assam Assembly Elections 2026, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had a heated, on-camera tussle with journalist Siddhant Mohan of The Lallantop on the sidelines of the media interaction in the Jalukbari constituency on April 9. The reporter challenged the CM on his allegedly unparliamentary language and his strong words on the leaders of Congress, such as Pawan Khera and Mallikarjun Kharge.
Intolerably vexed, Sarma replied with the words, "Mera language Lallantop se hamesha acha hota hai" (My language is always better than Lallantop’s). The reporter promptly replied, “Humey aapke certificate ki zarurat nahi hai” (We don’t need your certificate). The CM then pointedly said he did not require any certificate as well and said that he had not summoned a press conference either and that he did not want to give a further answer.
The short yet passionate video has massively hit the trending list on social media, sparking mixed reactions with some in favor of the aggressive tone of the CM and others in opposition to the tone of politics. The episode underscores that the role of the leader during the last stages of campaigning is subject to great scrutiny.
