Mamata Banerjee arrived at the Calcutta High Court on 14th May 2026 wearing a formal black lawyer "gown," which was captured in a video uploaded on several social media platforms, including MatsyaVideo. She was accompanied by senior citizens such as Kalyan Banerjee and his son.

Mamata, who has been a lawyer since 1982, personally attended and made representation in a PIL filed with the Chief Justice regarding the alleged post-poll violence following the recent Assembly election, which saw TMC face a huge setback at the hands of BJP. She urged the court to keep its eyes closed to the plight of those who had been ousted and able-bodied party activists and rhetorically asked the court, “Bengal is not a bulldozer state," and denounced alleged attacks on TMC offices and minorities.

For most people, it was a rare and an unusual sight to appear in a dramatic way so that it caught the attention of the people, and social media went crazy with sharing it as the unmarked phenomenon. The Bar Council of India has asked the West Bengal Bar Council to submit a report on her enrollment and right to practice. The Bar Council of India has requested the West Bengal Bar Council to make a report about her enrolment and right to practice.

This time Mamata appeared before the court as a lawyer more rarely than before. The court has ordered police to keep people safe and report on the violence incidents. It's gotten many people talking, and some political debate heated up a lot statewide.
