The initial results carried out by the high-stakes Assembly elections counting on May 4, 2026, indicate good results of the BJP in West Bengal and Assam. In Assam, the NDA with BJP at its helm is leading comfortably in most seats with the CM Himanta Biswa Sarma leading in Jalukbari.
In West Bengal, the BJP is gaining a lot and is ahead in a number of constituencies, pressuring TMC bastions, including early troubles in Bhabanipur of Mamata Banerjee.
In South India, DMK is leading in Tamil Nadu; as per initial numbers, its Congress-led UDF is in a clear lead in Kerala compared to the ruling LDF.
These tendencies indicate a contradictory yet unanimous decision in the East and traditional Southern players, with the BJP cementing its position in eastern states and traditional Southern stakeholders holding their positions. Final results are still expected since it continues counting, and in subsequent rounds, the trends may change. This counting day is coming to be among the most viewed political developments of 2026.
