Swirling speculation over internal differences within the AAP, the one senior-most leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh, was summoned to comment on the choice of the party to remove its deputy leader, Raghav Chadha, in the Upper House.
Expressing a sterner, no-nonsense reply, Singh replied, austerely, to his wife: People are waiting at home; I work. He also explained that the Secretariat of the Rajya Sabha has been updated on the decision of the party and explained that the change was a normal organizational exercise.
The party has nominated Punjab MP Ashok Mittal to the post of Chadha and has asked that no more time be given to the AAP quota for Chadha as the speaker.
Although Sanjay Singh minimized the development and rejected claims that there was a significant breach and Chadha quitting the party, the episode has given new reasons to believe that there are growing rifts within AAP leadership. One person who used to be perceived as being close to Arvind Kejriwal is Chadha, but he has been keeping a low profile to date, only posting videos of his parliamentary interventions. The episode remains a matter of interest in the political circles.
