On March 23, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the first speech in the Lok Sabha about the conflict in the West Asian region involving the US, Israel, and Iran. He discussed the situation as worrying and troubling, saying that it has posed unparalleled economic, security, and challenging humanitarian predicaments in India and the world.

PM Modi emphasized that the interruptions in the major trade routes, such as the Strait of Hormuz, and the attacks on civilian infrastructure and energy and transport infrastructure were unacceptable. Instead, he emphasized dialogue and diplomacy as the only resolution and requested all sides to de-escalate and make peace.

Making some promises in assuring the House that the government is keeping a close eye over the situation, the Prime Minister assured the House that he has talked to the leaders in the region twice and is making every effort to ensure the safety of close to one crore Indians residing in the Gulf countries and also the continuity of crude oil and gas and fertilizer supplies.

He encouraged Parliament to convey a collective message of peace, and he begged people to remain united and vigilant, likening the possible long-term effect to the COVID-19 pandemic. On Tuesday, the issue will be discussed by the Rajya Sabha by Modi.
