On Tuesday, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi claimed on Instagram that the social media platform has blocked his video with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, which he posted on his ‘reel' section. The video seemed to have accrued huge views, featuring various kinds of welfare schemes and political messages before it was seemingly pulled to restrictions.
Rahul shared screenshots claiming the platform used to be suppressing the content and asked about the selective censorship.
The Union Information & Broadcasting Ministry and IT ministry reacted quickly and claimed the central government was not involved in blocking the reel. The platform determines the content to be removed based on its community guidelines, and there was no official order issued, officials said.
It has reignited the discussion on advocating free speech and free expression and censorship on social media. Rahul's assertion was backed by many opposition leaders, whereas the BJP supporters called him the victim card player.
So, the accessibility of the reel is still not so good on Instagram, and the controversy is still going on.
