As the assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry are underway today, April 9, 2026, educational institutions are closed, allowing polls to go on and maintaining safety.
The Assam government has officially announced that April 9 is a public holiday in the state. Schools, colleges, and all educational institutions, both government and private, will be closed. Offices, banks, and commercial establishments are then extended the holiday to enlist and get people to turn out and vote in the 126 assembly seats.
Companies in Kerala are now closed in all the government and aided colleges in Kerala to carry out the single-phase polling in 140 constituencies. A good number of school buildings are being utilized as polling stations.
Schools in Puducherry are already on holiday since April 6, and they will be closed until April 10, the whole election tenure of its 30 assembly seats. The colleges are also closed between the 8th and 10th of April.
Closures are widespread, but students and parents are advised to make sure that their respective institutions and institutions have been confirmed. With this break, the election staff and voters can continue to use school premises without interruption. All three regions are supposed to have their results on May 4, 2026.
