Senior Congressman Shashi Tharoor has not only been brilliant enough to not comment on whether he could be the next Chief Minister of Kerala amid exit polls that predicted high scores for the UDF. On being questioned directly, Tharoor responded, "I know precisely what you are attempting to get me to say," and switched the focus by reminding him about the limitations of the exit polls in the multicultural Indian society.
"There are too many problems in the exit polls in our country," he remarked, painfully noting that several polls concurring on a UDF lead are miraculous. Tharoor had earlier disqualified himself from being a CM candidate and indicated that such a position should preferably be held by an elected MLA.
His remarks are timely as the initial trends indicate that UDF is doing well. The reaction has continued to create speculation among the Congress circles of the next face of the leadership even before the final results are announced today.
