Lawmaker in Congress, Shashi Tharoor, made a very strong political statement on Sunday, saying that the left will not be in power anywhere in India after May 4. His statement is aimed at the current ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, indicating that the alliance is poised to lose power in the upcoming Assembly elections.
In a commentary on the wider decadence of Left influence in the rest of the country, Tharoor was confident in the prospects of the Congress-led UDF in Kerala. A defeat in Kerala would actually leave the CPI(M) and its allies powerless at the executive level in any major state.
His remark follows the start of counting as many states start counting on May 4. In the eyes of political observers, this is a major step towards further marginalization of traditional left politics in Indian democracy. Complete findings will be available later in the day.
