The winning moments of the sporting weekend in India were when the women's hockey team scored a resounding 4-0 win over Uruguay in the World Cup of Hockey fixtures 2026 World Cup qualifiers at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Astroturf Stadiums in Ranchi on March 9, 2026, only a day following the victory of the Indian cricket team in the third T20 World Cup.

Vandana Katariya got off the mark in the 12th minute with a clinical field goal and doubled up in the 38th with a powerful drag-flick penalty corner conversion. Salima Tete, a midfielder, added to the lead in the 45th minute with a rebound goal, and Navneet Kaur put the finishing touches in the 52nd minute with a brilliant reverse shot.


The Indian side played more (more than 65 percent), had more chances, and had a clean sheet with good defenses, as well as the sharp saves of Savita as a goalkeeper. The victory leaves India at the top of Pool A with full points on two games, increasing their possibility of a direct ticket to the 2026 World Cup in Spain-Netherlands.
