PV Sindhu, the bronze medalist in the Tokyo Olympics, advanced to the second round of the Indonesia Open with a hard-fought victory over Aya Ohori of Japan. Sindhu won the match in 70 minutes, 17-21, 21-17, to advance to the round of 16, where she will face Yvonne LI of Germany.

PV Sindhu, the third seed, won for the 11th time in a row over the left-handed Japanese shuttler.

Ohori's explosive tempo, combined with Sindhu's unforced errors, made for an unusual start for the great Indian shuttler. Sindhu continued to grimace as the Japanese won the game 21-17.

In the second, Sindhu made a comeback. She cut down on her unforced errors and went all out as she led 11-10 at the halftime break. Sindhu kept the momentum going, winning the game 21-17 to send the match to a decider.

Sindhu continued where she left off in the third game, racing to an 11-6 lead at the change of ends. Ohoroi, on the other hand, rallied and the game was knotted at 15-15 at one point. Sindhu, on the other hand, switched gears and won the match 21-17, exhaling a sigh of relief.

Sindhu had already qualified provisionally for the next BWF World Tour Finals, although her last World Tour victory came at the World Tour Finals in 2018, almost three years earlier. With Akane Yamaguchi, Sayaka Takahashi, and An Se Young all in the other half, the Indian should have an easy day.

She'd also like to have a successful week in Bali before the season's last tournament, the World Championships.

Later in the day, Kidambi Srikanth will compete against fellow countryman HS Prannoy, while B Sai Praneeth will face France's, Toma Junior Popov. Ashwini Ponappa/Reddy N Sikki will face the Stoeva sisters, Gabriela and Stefani, of Bulgaria in the women's doubles event.

B Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa will compete in the mixed doubles event against Takuro Hoki and Nami Matsuyama of Japan.

In the first round of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 event on Tuesday, Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen fought hard before losing to top seed Kento Momota of Japan, while Parupalli Kashyap lost to Singapore's Loh Kean Yew 11-21, 14-21.
