The Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer gave one of the most memorable fielding performances in the history of IPL 2026 when he lived up to his words against the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium on April 16. Miscued Hardik Pandya struck a shot by Marco Jansen towards long-on in the 18th over.
Iyer dashed around to his left side, jumped into the air close to the boundary rope, and in a table-defying act, he was able to receive the ball in his reversed position. Understanding that he would be thrown to the other side of the rope, he brilliantly threw the ball back into action, allowing his teammate, Xavier Bartlett, to finish the catch. Hardik was fined 14.
It was a magnificent piece of work that staggered the MI dugout. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, who were in close proximity to the boundary, were also captured with their mouths, jaws agape and in disbelief, and hands raised in awe. Their invaluable utterances did not take long to spread online.
Much later Iyer jokingly attributed the catch, which he helped PBKS grab, to his assistance in getting the game back on track.
