However, Badrinath apparently said something like “let him die there” while Krunal Pandya had developed severe cramps in the field, which many interpreted as insensitive.
It went viral, with cricket fans reacting with huge outrage over the lack of sportsmanship on the part of the man, particularly after the praise took to social media for MI's Ryan Rickelton for helping the opponent.
Later, Badrinath clarified on X that what he had written was due to colloquial Tamil. He explained that he was emphasizing Rickelton's magnanimity and fairness as opposed to an indifferent attitude.
