Sanju Samson had made his name in the history of the T20 World Cup when he won the Player of the Tournament award after India crushed New Zealand in the final with 96 runs in the 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on March 8. The Kerala lumber hero was outstanding throughout the tournament, with steadfast bursts of continuously accumulating runs when the team was under pressure and appearing among the leading scorers.
The role of his life was his ultimate: a spectacular 89 out of only 46 balls (8 fours and 5 sixes) to support a mammoth 255/5 Indian total, having been forborne with by Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma earlier. The bowling assault of New Zealand was broken down by the aggressive and calm knock by Samson, who established a sufficient defense on his defenseable total on a high-scoring pitch.
An ICC pro too hailed his influence in the entire tournament, such as the key knocks in the Super 8s and the semifinals. The citation stated that the speed of Sanju to accelerate and stabilize makes him indispensable. The accolade is an end to a dream run of Samson, who also got applause from captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir. Samson's trophy was an addition to gold given out by India as they celebrated their third T20 World Cup and consecutive victories.
