Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) battled back to secure a commanding 33-run win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 6 in the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, going to the top of the batting points table in IPL 2026.

Playing with a massive 235/4 at the start, SRH blew bullets past with knocks from Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan to keep PBKS scoreless past 200 and finally hold their position before finishing at 202/7 as Cooper Connolly struggled to strengthen his innings. From the start, it was a hammer blow of 235/4 for SRH, who, with potent knocks from Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan, didn't allow PBKS to score a run until the end when their innings were made difficult by Cooper Connolly's attempts to consolidate and boost his score. The victory put SRH 14 points clear from 11 matches in the league, on the basis of the net run rate of +0.737, dropping them out of first place to PBKS.

The side that would beat the first six games went on a falling four-game streak and is in second place with three points in their last 10 games. Having dropped the catches, Shreyas Iyer's team lost out on a score in critical moments.

The outcome breathes new life into SRH and gives them hope of making it to the playoffs, while it just might raise some eyebrows at PBKS, who went on a big winning streak. As both sides will look to bounce back in their upcoming encounters with the league stage heating up.
