Actor Sunny Deol has drawn mixed reactions after recalling a remark by his late father Dharmendra during promotions for the upcoming Partition drama Batwara 1947. At a press event in Patna, when asked about Pakistan, Sunny avoided political comments and instead quoted his father.

He said the entire country was once one and recalled Dharmendra’s words: “Yeh meri maa hai aur woh meri mausi hai” (This is my mother and that is my maternal aunt), emphasising a sense of historical connection. Sunny clarified that the film was shot in India and stressed that as an actor his job is to tell stories, not enter political debates.

While many appreciated the nostalgic reference, some social media users criticised the remark, arguing it overlooked current tensions between the two nations. The comment has since gone viral, adding extra attention to the film’s promotions.
