On Monday, India has recorded 6,563 fresh Covid-19 cases and 132 deaths in the last 24 hours, as per the data updated by the health ministry. With 8,077 recoveries, the active cases in the country are standing at 82,267, as per the Health Ministry’s bulletin.

The daily positivity rate stood at 0.75% and weekly positivity rate at 0.60%. Meanwhile the, active cases accounted for 0.24% of the total number of infections in the country. 

As per a tally by news agency Reuters, "the Omicron variant has been spreading fast, especially in the United States, which was already ravaged by the second wave of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). It is confronting another dark winter, with hospitalisations increasing 45 per cent over the last month and cases rising 40 per cent."
