Covid Updates: India records 6,531 fresh cases

India has recorded 6,531 fresh Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

On Monday, India has reported 6,531fresh Covid-19 cases and 315 deaths, according to the health ministry. With this the total active cases in the country has reached to 75,841 and the death count ha climbed to 4,79,997. The number of Omicron cases has risen to 578 in the country and at least 151 have recovered, the health ministry said. Active cases (75,841) account for less than 1% of total cases, currently at 0.22%; lowest since March 2020, said the health ministry. 

New York City

In New York City, New York State Department of Health "identified four-fold increases in Covid-19 hospital admissions for children 18 and under beginning the week of December 5 through the current week. Approximately half of the admissions are younger than five, an age group that is vaccine ineligible", the department said. 

Karnataka 

On Sunday, the Karnataka government announced to impose night curfew for 10 days, starting from December 28 amidst rising cases of the Omicron variant of the Covid-19 virus. In its order, the government said, "all commercial activities will be shut between 10pm and 5am from Tuesday to January 7." The government banned public celebration for the New Year and attendance at gatherings, meetings, conferences and events, including weddings, has been limited to 300 people from Tuesday. 

Vaccination for Children age 15-18 years 

On Sunday, in a press release, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, Dr Prathap C Reddy said, “We welcome the decision of the Prime Minister to begin vaccination of children between 1518 yrs and booster doses for those on the frontline as well as those above 60 years with comorbidities. This timely, proactive decision will prove a gamechanger against the COVID variants and support a continuation of the country’s return to normalcy. Apollo Hospitals will support the expanded vaccination programme to ensure a successful fight against COVID19."
