On Saturday, India has reported 7,992 fresh Covid-19 cases along with 393 fresh fatalities in the last 24 hours, as per the data updated by the health ministry. With 393 fresh fatalities due to the virus, the death toll in the country has reached to 4,75,128, according to Union health ministry data.
India's recovery rate has been recorded at 98.36%, the highest since March last year, the health ministry said. The active caseload in the country currently stands at 93,277, which is the lowest in 559 days.
Vaccination certificate mandated
In view of the safety of the public from Omicron variant of Covid-19 virus, the state government of Madurai would make it mandatory to carry vaccination certificates in all public places including markets, theatres, places of leisure, schools, colleges, playgrounds, eateries, hotels, lodges, bars, omnibuses, industries, factories, shops, temples and commercial establishments.

Covid-19 Vaccinations
On Friday, till9:30pm, a total of 131.98 crore doses of anti-Covid jabs were administered in the country. With this over 86% of the adult population has received at least the first dose of the vaccines, whereas 53.5% are fully vaccinated with both doses.
The average daily vaccination in December bounced back to the September level when as average of 78.69 lakh doses were given per day. A total of 23.60 crore doses were given in September across the country.
As reported by PTI, "a third booster dose of Covid-19 vaccine provides 70-75 per cent protection against symptomatic infection from the Omicron variant", the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) said on Friday.
