On Monday, India has reported 7,350 new cases along with 202 fresh fatalities and 7,973 fresh recoveries, as per the health ministry's latest data update. India's active caseload currently stands at 91,456, which is the lowest in 561 days. With 7,973 recoveries in the last 24 hours the country's caseload of total recoveries has reached to 3,41,30,768. India's recovery rate currently stands at 98.37%, which is the highest since March 2020, said the health ministry.
As per the health ministry, active cases in the country account for less than 1% of total cases, currently standing at 0.26%, it is the lowest since March 2020. The daily positivity rate currently stands at 0.86% which is less than 2% for last 70 days. Whereas, the weekly positivity rate currently stands at 0.69% which is less than 1% for last 29 days.
As per the latest reports released from the World Health Organization (WHO) and World Bank on Sunday, the Covid-19 pandemic is likely to halt two decades of global progress towards Universal Health Coverage. The reports reveal that more than half a billion people are being pushed into extreme poverty because they have to pay for health services out of their own pockets.
On Sunday, India’s tally of Omicron cases has reached to 37 with three more people testing positive for the new variant in Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Nagpur. Kerala reported its first case of Omicron. The patient with Omicron had returned from UK to Kochi on December 6. He had tested Covid-19 positive on December 8, said Kerala Health Minister Veena George. Nagpur in Maharashtra reported its first Omicron case on Sunday with a 40-year-old man testing positive for this variant of coronavirus after returning from a West African country.
