Covid-19 updates: India records lowest spike since April 16

India has recorded lowest number of fresh Covid-19 infected cases since April 16.

On Monday, India has recorded 53,256 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This is the lowest spike of daily cases in 88 days. Active cases further declines to 7.02 lakh, while over 2.88 crore people have recovered from the infection.  The total death toll is now over 3.88 lakh in the country. Kerala, with 11,654 cases on Sunday, has now overtaken Karnataka to become the state with second highest number of total cases.

IIT Kanpur's study predicted the third wave

The government will provide free vaccines to all above the age of 18 from today. An IIT Kanpur study done by Prof Rajesh Ranjan and Mahendra Verma, along with their team, on Monday said third wave peak of Covid-19 could be around September-October this year.

"For the same, using SIR model, we have constructed the following three scenarios of a possible third wave using the epidemic parameters of the second wave. We assume that India is fully unlocked on July 15. Scenario 1 (Back-to-Normal): Third wave peak in October but a lower peak height than the second wave," the statement read.


CBSE Board Exams results

The CBSE board on Monday told the Supreme Court that the results of the exams held in 2021 will be declared by 31 July. The board added that optional exams will be held tentatively between 15 August and 15 September if the situation is conducive, and that disputes will be referred to a committee constituted by the board.
