In the past 24 hours, India recorded 30,549 new cases of Covid-19 and 422 deaths from the disease, said the health ministry on Tuesday.

The country has caseload of 317,265,07 active cases overall and total fatalities stand at 425,195.

The number of active cases came down to 4,04,958, which comprises 1.28 per cent of the total infections. The national Covid-19 recovery rate increased to 97.38 per cent, the health ministry data stated. 

During the week ended on Sunday (July 26-August 1) the hill states of north India witnessed the maximum rise in fresh cases as compared with the previous week. Himachal Pradesh registered an increase of 64% in the cases, the highest in the country, with cases rising from 670 in the previous week to 1,100. 

Uttarakhand reported a 61% rise in infections, at 437 fresh cases last week. J&K logged a surge of 26%. Assam and Delhi reported fresh cases at 3,563 and 3,336, respectively.
