A popular dietitian has cautioned in a viral video against a common Indian habit of having rice along with chapatis (rotis) in one single meal. In combination, it can prove to be a lethal cocktail of carbs that can wreak havoc on the body, say experts like Ashu Gupta, who is a dietician and nutritionist, and Ramni.
Both rice and wheat are high in carbs and have a high glycemic index. Taking two together triggers a surge of blood sugar, resulting in instant bursts in energy levels and a subsequent drop, which can even result in diabetes problems and weight gain. It may also lead to maldigestion, flatulence, digestive stasis, and gastrointestinal upset due to fermentation of the grains in the digestive tract blocking uptake of nutrients.
One grain at a time, a two-hour interval between the different grains is recommended. To reap the benefits of your choice of carbs, always serve them with an abundance of vegetables, protein, and healthy fats. This easy step can help with digestion, balance energy levels, and assist in maintaining a healthy weight. The number of people who now think about their thali habits for optimal health is increasing.
