Sick of being bitten by mosquitos! These are the 7 most powerful natural tricks to keep them at bay by not having chemical repellents:
- Neem leaf smoke To smoke out the mosquitoes: burn a handful of fresh/dried neem leaves in a metal pan; the smoke will drive the mosquitoes away at once (extremely popular in India).
- Garlic spray: Combine 1-3 teaspoons of garlic smash with water, leave overnight, strain, and spray around the doors, windows, and plants.
- Citronella candles/oil – Put citronella oil in a diffuser or burn little homemade citronella candles; the extremely pungent scent would cover the human smell.
- Lemon eucalyptus oil One part lemon eucalyptus oil in water or carrier oil is mixed with water. Apply to skin (CDC-approved natural substitute to DEET).
- Basing/mint pots—Keep potted tulsi (holy basil), mint, or lemongrass close to windows/doors; mosquitoes dislike their sweet smell.
- Coffee: Old ground Coffee in a bowl The burnt coffee dried, and the smoke chased off the mosquitoes fast.
- Fan Trick—Have a ceiling or pedestal fan on at night; the mosquitoes are not good fliers, and they are swept away.
It is better to combine 2-3 methods, which work best during the evenings and monsoons. Keep your lips out of the country of origin!
