Bengaluru is once again ironing out the kinks in its infrastructure as a recently built ₹500 crore major arterial road is cracking and settling into the ground within a span of 4 days of the grand opening on June 27. The Bengaluru Development Authority (BDA) constructed the 10.7-km road, which connects Kadabagere Cross on Magadi Road with Mysuru Road, and had already left a damaged area of almost 20 meters, where the surface was loose and there was a crack caused by the collapse of the surface.

The officials hurried repair work crews to the location at Kadabagere to seal the submerging section using aggregates. The project is a part of BDA's golden jubilee celebration and has been under intense criticism due to alleged poor workmanship, poor materials, and little or no supervision. People have videoed the destruction and are left wondering how such an expensive road can collapse so spectacularly before it is even opened. This incident has exacerbated calls for accountability, independent audits and holding contractors and officials accountable for the project.
