The Shiva Temple in Telangana, which was built 800 years ago, has been demolished for school purposes and is now stirring outrage.

The demolition of an 800-year-old Kakatiya Era Shiva Temple during the land clearance for the Integrated Residential School project of the government in Ashok Nagar (Khanapur Mandal) of Warangal district is highly controversial and tagged with multiple issues. The temple, recorded by the Heritage Department in 1965 and with a rare inscription of 1231 AD, was located in the historic area of the Kota Katta mud fort.

Historians, cultural activists, and locals have protested the demolition, which they say has destroyed an invaluable heritage in the process for the sake of development. The Union Ministry of Culture and Archaeology Department registered a case on the complaints, and the Telangana government has said it will construct the temple on the same site.

The ruling Congress government has been strongly criticized by political parties, and it has been exposed as more of an opposition party by opposition leaders. The videos of the site getting bulldozed have gone viral, and people are mourning the loss of Telangana's rich Kakatiya history. The incident has sparked a heated debate about the need for balance between development and preservation of heritage.
