Asansol: In a major development following the BJP victory by a massive majority in the 2026 West Bengal elections, the historic Durga Temple in Asansol has finally reopened its doors to its adherents after several years being shut down.
The temple was a major religious site but had been shut down since a long-standing dispute existed, along with an absence of maintenance and the claimed negligence of the administration during the previous TMC regime. Local population and Hindu groups celebrated the re-opening with special prayers, bhajans, and by offering special food (prasad).
BJP leaders celebrated the incident as a victory of Sanatan Dharma and assured they would give better protection and development to temples all over the state. Trust members in the temple made it clear that they hope that the new government will help in solving long-pending problems and streamline operations.
On the first day of the temple reopening, hundreds of devotees arrived at the temple. The development has earned a good feeling among the Hindu community in the Asansol industrial belt, which recorded good support for the BJP in the recent polls.
