The murder charge against the Bhopal city police against 33-year-old Twisha Sharma has been denied by the commissioner (police) of the city police, Sanjay Kumar, which alleges that the incident was suicide and not murder.
Speaking at a press conference, the headman of the police said they could infer from the postmortem report and other evidence that it "clearly" was a suicide. At the post-mortem, her mother-in-law accused him of using drugs, but this was found to be untrue, as the post-mortem revealed the woman died by "anti-mortem hanging."
Twisha, who previously completed her studies as Miss Pune and is an MBA degree holder from Noida, was discovered hanging from the door of her home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal 5 months after her marriage to lawyer Samarth Singh on 12 May. Her family alleges dowry harassment and murder from the husband and in-laws (a retired judge) and has called for a second postmortem and a CBI investigation.
Police have set up an SIT, arrested the accused, and issued a warrant for the absconding husband. The case is still generating a lot of controversy on social media.
