A few hours after the rape and murder of a 22-year-old IIT graduate and UPSC aspirant in her Kailash Hills home in South Delhi—the daughter of a senior IRS officer—Delhi Police arrested 19-year-old Rahul Meena of an OYO hotel in Dwarka.
CCTV footage was the turning point, as it records Meena coming into the residential colony at 6:30 AM, coming into the house at 6:39 AM with a spare key (which he had probably never returned after he was dismissed) in a shoe rack, and leaving at 7:20 AM.
Police trailed him to Alwar, where it was found that he had raped the wife of a friend a day prior to the Delhi crime, followed by selling his phone at 10,000 rupee, thus opting to use his vehicle at 6,000 rupee so that he could not be tracked by anyone before arriving in the capital.
The sexual assault on the victim led to her being strangled using a mobile phone charger cable. Various police units had been deployed in Delhi and Rajasthan, and Meena was eventually located concealing herself in the Dwarka hotel.
He has currently been charged with murder, robbery, and rape.
