In Karnataka's Shivamogga district, a government school teacher, Manjula Devi, has come under scrutiny for allegedly telling two Class 5 Muslim students to "go to Pakistan" during an altercation between the students. The incident, which occurred on a Friday, prompted an investigation after it was brought to the attention of the school's administration. As a result, Manjula Devi has been transferred, and an inquiry has been initiated to verify the allegations.

Complaint Filed, Action Taken

A complaint was lodged by A Nazrullah, the president of the minority section of the Janata Dal Secular, with the education department regarding the incident. He expressed shock upon learning of the incident from the children and promptly reported it to the Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI). Despite the absence of concrete proof of the alleged statement, Block Education Officer P Nagraj confirmed that action was taken based on the students' complaints.

Similar Incidents Raise Concerns

This incident follows another recent case in Uttar Pradesh where a video of a Muslim boy being slapped by his classmates on a teacher's instruction went viral. The teacher, Tripta Tyagi, faced backlash for making objectionable remarks against the community in the video. Tyagi was booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint by the boy's family. While Tyagi claimed the video had been tampered with, she admitted that instructing students to slap their peer was wrong.

Ongoing Concerns and Student Relocation

The incident in Uttar Pradesh has further highlighted concerns surrounding communal sensitivity and the role of educators in maintaining a respectful and inclusive environment in schools. Additionally, it was reported that the boy who was slapped in the video had relocated to another private school, reflecting the ongoing impact of such incidents on students and their educational experiences.
